According to the USGS, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake centered about 10 miles west from Port-au-Prince hit Haiti. Several eyewitnesses reported heavy damage and bodies in the street. A tsunami watch was issued but later called off. This is the most powerful earthquake to hit Haiti in a century. At least 10 aftershocks were felt after the initial quake.
